Why do I still get a sedentary reminder after moving?

Why do sedentary reminder notifications sometimes feel inaccurate?

You might have noticed this: even after standing up and moving for a minute or two, Relaxo sometimes still nudges you with a notification. It can feel a bit frustrating.

Don’t worry — this usually doesn’t mean your activity wasn’t tracked, and it’s not a bug. It’s just that your device and health apps take a few steps to record, process, and sync your movement data. Occasionally, this can cause a slight delay or mismatch in the timing of notifications.

Why it happens: There’s a small “lag” between when HealthKit updates your data and when Relaxo checks your activity.

Before going further, make sure your health profile is set up correctly and your watch is being worn properly. For calibration instructions, check Apple’s official guide:

  • Get the most accurate measurements using your Apple Watch
  • Calibrate your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy

How “Delays” Happen

Relaxo relies on data from your Apple Watch to track your sitting time. If you get a reminder even after moving, it usually comes down to how the data is captured, processed, and updated:

  • Data capture and initial processing takes time

When your Apple Watch detects movement, the raw data first needs to be processed and converted into Health app–compatible info like steps or standing minutes. This happens quickly but not instantly, so the data isn’t immediately available for Relaxo.

  • Health app’s data recording and update cycle

The Health app is the hub for all your health data, and it doesn’t update in real time. To smooth trends and save battery, some data—like steps, active energy, or movement calories—may be aggregated over short intervals, which can make updates appear delayed.

  • Activity didn’t reach the app’s “effective” threshold

Even if the Health app records a short burst of activity, it might not meet your sedentary break goal (e.g., Standard · 3 minutes). If the recorded activity was only 2 min 40 sec or had intensity ≤1.5 METs, Relaxo will treat the sedentary period as unbroken and may still send reminders.

What Can You Do?

  • Wear your Apple Watch properly: Not too tight, not too loose, and give your skin some room to breathe. This keeps it comfortable and lets the sensors work accurately. Detailed instructions from Apple:
    • Wearing your Apple Watch
  • Give your activity a little extra: If you notice reminders popping up right after you’ve moved, try moving a bit longer or a little more vigorously. This helps Relaxo register your activity more reliably.
  • Wait a moment: After moving, give it a couple of minutes for the data to sync and the app to recognize your activity.
  • Understand the system: This “delay” is normal—your movements are usually recorded accurately, even if the notification shows up a bit later.

What really matters?

The key is that you’re moving — that’s always good for your health. Don’t let the tools become a constraint, and don’t let the numbers distract you from the real goal: Stay Healthy!
