Why do I still get a sedentary reminder after moving?

Why do sitting reminder notifications sometimes feel inaccurate?

You might have noticed this: you’ve just stood up or walked around for a couple of minutes, yet 「Relaxo」 still pops up an “unhelpful” reminder telling you it’s time to get some active again. It can definitely feel confusing.

Don’t worry — let’s take a look at what might be causing this. There are usually 3 main reasons behind it:

  1. The current activity level does not meet Relaxo’s ‘effective’ threshold. Take 「Refresh · Lasts 3 min」 as an example – the sitting timer may not reset in the following situations:

    • The activity is correctly recorded by Apple Watch, but Physical Effort ≤ 1.5 METs — for example, moving intermittently or standing still;
    • Physical Effort > 1.5 METs , but the activity lasts for a short period — less than 3 minutes;

    In both cases, Relaxo considers the sedentary state as not effectively broken, so it will continue counting sitting time and sending reminders. Only when both duration and intensity meet the threshold can blood circulation and metabolism be effectively activated, helping counteract the harmful effects of prolonged sitting.

  2. Apple Watch and Health app data may appear slightly delayed

    This is quite common. Sometimes it takes 3–5 minutes after activity for the data to update. This is because Apple Watch and 「Health」 apps go through a series of complex processes to track, process, and synchronize your health data.

  3. Apple Watch may not have accurately recorded your Stand minutes.

    Certain standing postures can be difficult for Apple Watch to recognize (we’ve tested this).

    For example:

    • While cooking or chopping in the kitchen;
    • Standing while studying or working;
    • Standing while using your phone or typing;

    Apple Watch uses the gyroscope to detect standing based on your arm position. If your arm is held horizontally, it might be interpreted as not standing, so your stand time may not be recorded.

    How to check: Open the 「Health」 app on your iPhone → tap Stand Minutes → scroll to the bottom and select Show All Data → open today’s data to verify your records.

How “Delays” Happen

Delays usually occur during the following stages of data processing:

  • Data capture and initial processing takes time

    When your Apple Watch detects movement, the raw data first needs to be processed and converted into Health app–compatible info like steps or standing minutes. This happens quickly but not instantly, so the data isn’t immediately available for Relaxo.

  • Health app’s data recording and update cycle

    The Health app is the hub for all your health data, and it doesn’t update in real time. To smooth trends and save battery, some data—like steps, active energy, or movement calories—may be aggregated over short intervals, which can make updates appear delayed.

What Can You Do?

  • Wear your Apple Watch properly: Make sure it’s not too tight or too loose, and give your skin some room to breathe. This not only keeps you comfortable but also helps the sensors work more accurately.
    • Wearing your Apple Watch
  • Ensure your settings are correct: Keep your personal info updated, wear the watch snugly, enable Wrist Detection, select the right workout, and calibrate—these ensure more accurate activity, heart rate, and calorie measurements.
    • Get the most accurate measurements using your Apple Watch
  • Calibrate your Apple Watch: Proper calibration helps your watch provide more accurate and reliable measurements for workouts and daily activity.
    • Calibrate your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy
  • Understand the mechanism: A slight “delay” in activity detection is completely normal—it’s part of the data processing process. Don’t worry, your activity data is still being recorded accurately.
  • Add a bit more movement: If the app often reminds you to move just after you’ve already done so, try extending your movement a little longer or increasing the intensity slightly. This helps the system recognize your activity more clearly—and it’s good for your health too.
  • Give it a moment: After you’ve moved around, wait a few minutes to allow the data to fully sync.
